🎄 Elf on the Shelf: Week 2 (Dec 8-14)

Week 2 - Our elf Levi’s plan + props + a little mom magic✨

First, congrats on making it to week 2! Let’s recap the magic that Levi brought to our boys this week…

Not pictured - day 4, Levi snuggled into the Christmas tree above an empty basket and left a note saying in order to receive the boys must first give (or sell) some of their old toys. Jury is still out on what they will pick - that’s on the to-dos for this week!

Onward to WEEK 2! Included in this post you will again see…

Day 8: Toilet Joke 🚽😂

Every year we do at least one bathroom joke because the kids think it’s hysterical. This year Levi is creating a little toilet paper prank—silly, harmless, and guaranteed giggles.

What you need:

  • Toilet paper

  • Markers

Mom prep time: About 3 minutes. Success!

Day 9: Rudolph Nose Elf Selfie 🎅📸

This story goes…Levi sneaks in while the boys sleep and paints a tiny red Rudolph nose on each of them using washable face paint. Then he takes a “selfie” next to them with his own little red nose.

This one works best on those kiddos that are deeeeep sleepers. It will be hit or miss if my kids sleep through the red nose application - but I will have some fun trying!

What you need:

  • Red face paint, washable marker or even lip stick will do!

  • Note that says “Rudolph hold me to do it!”

  • Camera (polaroid, cell phone)

  • Polaroid film, printer or tablet to display captured image with elf for kiddos to find

This one is always a top-tier memory maker. We have done some variations in the past which included selfies on their tablets while they are sleeping and even one with our dog! See examples from years past at the end of this post. This year’s takes it up a level, wish me luck!

Day 10: Christmas Trees… Is It Cake? 🎂🎄

A fun twist on the popular “Is It Cake?” trend.
Levi leaves out tiny Christmas tree — one clearly real cake, the rest fake… silly Levi isn’t the best baker, but he tries!

Ideas:

  • Little Debbie Christmas tree cakes (you can buy them here, but I bet your local grocery has them for cheaper!)

  • 2-5” Christmas Tree look-a-likes, examples: Option1, Option 2, Option 3

  • Tree ornament that looks edible

  • A small knife or sign that says: “IS IT CAKE?”

Kids love “guessing” which one is real.

Day 11: Boobie Trap! (Elf Stuck in Mom’s Bra) 😂

Yes… we’re doing it.
The Boobie Trap.
Levi somehow gets caught inside Mom’s bra, totally tangled and helpless.

Honestly to small kids what is funnier than toilets? Underwear - ha!

Mom tips:

  • Use a clean bra (lol)

  • Pin it to a bulletin board, hang it from come cabinets or tape it to a mirror - get creative!

  • Add a note: “Send help! I thought it was a hammock!”

Other alternatives we have done include using a pair of the boys undies, as well as a face mask hammock during Covid - but this is the first year Levi gets tangled up in mom’s intimates!

Day 12: Roll the Dice & Win a Prize 🎲🎁

A hands-on, interactive night! Levi sets up a dice game with 6 numbered cups. Each boy gets 3 rolls. Whatever number they land on, they get the prize inside that cup.

Prize ideas:

  • Mini candy canes

  • Stickers

  • Lego minifig bags

  • Small erasers

  • Pokémon cards

  • Mini fidgets

  • Anything that fits under a cup - try the dollar store! Or if you want the easy button this pack has a pretty great variety of things (even has extras you could use as stocking stuffers!)

You need:

  • 6 cups

  • One dice

  • Little prizes for each cup

Day 13: Donut Snowmen + Elf in a Mason Jar (Travel to Grandparent’s house) ⛄🚗

It’s the holidays, and sometimes we have to travel to celebrate with family - so today in addition to an easy cute treat Levi will make him self “mobile” but stuffing himself into a mason jar so the boys can carry him with us to our grandparent’s house.

Levi makes donut snowmen with three powdered donuts stacked and decorated with candy.

What you need:

  • Powdered mini donuts

  • Mini chocolate chips

  • Resees Top Hat

  • Orange candy nose (M&M’s, Skittles, left over candy corn?!)

  • Ribbon or pretzel-scarf

  • Optional skewers

  • Mason jar

It’s adorable AND delicious.

Day 14: Hide the Candy Canes (at grandparent’s house!) 🍭🎄

When we are on-the-go we need fairly simple tricks for Levi at other’s houses - one of our go to is hiding 12 candy canes around the house.

Levi hides candy canes all around our family’s house and leaves a note:
“Find all 12 candy canes I have hidden throughout the house!”

You can hide:

  • 6, 12, 20 candy canes

  • One per child

  • Or do a golden candy cane worth a special prize

We keep it simple, the boys like working together, and I am not going for the all out brawl, or tears that a golden candy cane might cause… not yet at least.

That’s a wrap on week 2!
